4 Biggest Annoyances As A Female Entrepreneur
The fact that this article is being written is an annoyance in itself!
Do you think there are any posts on the most annoyances as a male entrepreneur? Of course not, because it isn't seen as an anomaly of any sort. So, there's one annoyance for you already.
Seriously, navigating the world as a female entrepreneur can be both difficult and frustrating. Personally, I find these things to be the main causes of my pains:
Mansplaining
Men hate this word! Mansplaining is basically when a man explains something to you because they assume you don't understand it. Or, they think they're smarter than you and have to explain it. It's one of the most basic forms of ingrained sexism you see in the business world. The worst thing is, you never see women explain things to men at all. Even if we know we're more qualified to do so, we keep it inside. Here's a tip for anyone reading this; if I need something explained to me, I will ask!
Being judged by your appearance
Women get judged by our appearances all the damn time. It's even worse when you're an entrepreneur as people expect you to look a certain way. You're almost supposed to look quite nerdy and very uptight. If you turn up to work in clothes that make you feel attractive and confident, people seem to lose respect for you.
Honestly, test this out for yourself. Go to work one day dressed in the most stereotypical businesswoman style ever. Head to a site like https://www.eyeglasses.com/ to get a pair of glasses, wear an ugly pants suit, and tie your hair back. People start taking you seriously, which is disgusting. I should command respect no matter what I wear to work or what I look like - it's my business; the dress code doesn't alter my intelligence.
Not being respected
Can you imagine a world where a male business owner worries about disciplining an employee? Sadly, this happens to a lot of female entrepreneurs as male employees don't like being told what to do by a woman. I'm sorry, but that's the fundamental issue here. Yes, this is a generalization - many male employees will happily take advice and respect female entrepreneurs.
Still, it's annoying telling someone something and seeing them give it no thought at all. They either flat out ignore your commands or take a half-assed approach. This lack of respect is incredibly frustrating!
Breaking down so many barriers
It shouldn't be so hard for women in business to thrive. Thankfully, more and more women are thriving as entrepreneurs. But, we still have a much harder path than men do. We have to break down lots of barriers to get to where we want to be. This is mainly because of all the things listed above - we're not given as much respect as men, our intelligence is doubted, and we're judged on appearances.
Long story short, being a female entrepreneur is a difficult task. However, this makes it all the more rewarding when you succeed! Still, I think we'd all agree that we'd prefer to not have to write articles like this ever again.
