DIY Country Style Mini Twine Vases

If you're anything like me, then you love and appreciate a good DIY project. Lately stores have been filled with country style decor with a Beverly Hills style price tag. When I see super cute things that I need in my life but could do without the insane price that comes with it, my little hamster wheel in my head starts turning. I know I can make half of these things, maybe even better!

So today we're doing a do it yourself country style mini vase!

These vases are so easy to make and can be personalized to fit your style. From the flowers to the size of twine, the possibilities are endless for these little guys. Keep reading to find out how simple this DIY really is. If you're not into picture tutorials and want to just get to the nitty gritty, scroll to the bottom of the page for a condensed version.

You will need:

  • Two vases or jars of your choice
  • Twine or thin rope
  • Hot glue gun & a couple glue sticks (Most glues will work, I just prefer a hot glue gun)
  • Dried flowers
  • Scissors

Now that you have your supplies, let's get started!

Start by cleaning your vase and removing any charms that were previously attached.

Next, using your hot glue gun put three small drops of glue along the edge and place the rope on the dots. Press firmly to make sure the rope doesn't move. (Use caution when working with the hot glue gun!)

Continue the process on the remaining 3 sides of the vase or until you have reached your starting point.

Keep working your way around the vase using 3 dots of glue on every side. If you are using a larger vase, try using 5-6 dots of glue so the rope doesn't move around.

Wrap your vase all the way to the top, then cut the rope so that you can tuck and glue the frayed edges on the inside of the vase opening.

I chose to make two matching vases. Yours should look similar to these when you're done wrapping them with the twine/rope.

Now for the fun part. Choose the flowers you want to use inside of your vases. I chose two different style dried flowers that I found at my local craft store. You can use dried, artificial or even real flowers for your vase.

This part is really something you need to play with. You might not like your initial idea. Just keep trying until you find something you like. It took me a couple of tries to get the look that I was going for! Sometimes it helps to put them against a darker surface so that you can see what you're working with.

Eventually you will find an arrangement that pleases you. Now that the flowers are situated you can add any charms or ribbons you think will finish off the pieces.

And these are the finished products! I absolutely love them and I'm so glad I made them myself.

Buying materials for these products may seem like a bit of inconvenience for some, but I always keep my extra scraps and use them for my future projects.

Condensed Tutorial:

  1. Clean the vases thoroughly and remove any charms or extras.
  2. Using your hot glue gun, place 3-6 dots of glue on the first side of the vase. The number of dots depends on the size of your vase.
  3. Press the rope into the glue firmly, being careful not to burn your fingers!
  4. Continue this technique all the way around the vase until you reach your starting point.
  5. Place the next three dots directly above your starting rope and move your way up the entire vase.
  6. When you reach the top, cut the rope and glue the frayed ends to the inside of the mouth of the vase.
  7. Choose the flowers you want to use for your vase. I chose dried flowers but you can use artificial or real flowers if you'd like!
  8. Create an arrangement of flowers that suits your style. I chose to go with white and purple flowers because the room I'm using these for is primarily yellow decor. Since yellow and purple are complementary colors, it adds a nice touch!
  9. Once you are happy with your flowers, add any charms or extra ribbons you like onto the vases.
  10. Congrats, you just made yourself a fancy new country style vase!
