As many of you may already know, this morning 2 Virginia reporters were shot and killed. Their lives were tragically taken far too soon by an ex employee of the station the two were working for. Unfortunately, stories like this are becoming far too common in our world. I won't go into too much detail about the murders, hear say and rumors fill the media so I don't want to speak without knowing the facts. I would, however, like to take this as an opportunity for us to learn from this disastrous event.
Sometimes, I think it is easy to forget that we were all put on this planet as equals. Some may disagree, but I was raised to believe that I am equal to every other race, gender, religion, whatever it may be. I am no better than the poor, or the wealthy. I am no different than anyone. Underneath the surface layer, we are all equal.
This being said, it should never be okay to take another persons life from them. No one has the authority or the right to decide a fate like that. Not to go on a hippie rant, but what happened to the peace and love in the world? What happened to protecting each other and looking out for one another? People should never be turning their backs on other people. No matter how angry, jealous or sad someone makes you, violence or death is never the solution.
I think we all need to reflect on the song "Imagine" by John Lennon. We are the human race, it should not be broken down any farther than that. Be proud of your heritage, religion or gender, but do not let it create a barrier between you and the person walking down the street. Or the checker working at the market. We are all one. We are all equal.
We need to protect each other. We are all such a unique and broad group of individuals. There is so much to be taught and learned throughout the human race. Respect each other. Grow with one another. Don't put each other down or make anyone feel as if they are worth less.
We are all put on this planet for a reason. So why take that away from someone? You could have learned something from that individual. We all have stories and experiences, we need to share more of those and less of the hatred.
I understand it's so easy to get caught up in your emotions and let them effect how you treat people. It is so important to think before we act. To think before we react. You don't have to hurt people just because they hurt you. Let that be their problem. Work on bettering yourself and growing as an individual. You will be helping them in the long run by not letting their actions effect your positivity.
That's our new thing we need to focus on, day in and day out. We need to turn our negative thoughts into positive thoughts. We need to pump positivity into this world so that those around us can do the same. This world can improve and become more peaceful, but it won't change unless we're willing to make a move.
