Motivation has been the hardest thing on the journey towards entrepreneurial living for me. It's hard to stay encouraged and keep that drive of constantly wanting more for yourself. It's very easy to fall into the comfort trap.
Being comfortable isn't what you want. You want more. You want to create the life of your dreams and won't stop until you get there. That's the mentality we need to try and remember when times get tough.
For me, staying motivated is tricky. I work a full time job and still had to juggle my endeavors with my normal home life. It would've been way easier for me to just settle into my mediocre life. But I want more. And that's what keeps me pushing through.
Handling life in the moment.
When you're finding yourself stuck in that position of wanting to give up and pushing to continue fighting forward, ask yourself what you really want. Are you ready for this new life? Is this really what you want?
If the answer to these questions is yes, then you need to give yourself that pep talk to keep on fighting. It's not going to be easy, but you've got this! You are your biggest supporter, but also your biggest critic. Make sure that powerful, supportive voice stays strong now and have constant reminders all around of just how much you can do this!
If you're prepared for any negative emotion that may come in a moment, you're way less likely to fall prey to them.
The pep talk.
I've had plenty of pep talks with myself throughout this journey. I'm basically my own therapist at this point. "So, how does that make you feel?" It's a funny question that is the start of every therapy joke, but it is my real life in this moment. I ask myself that question constantly.
I know that when I get in my funks of not wanting to do a damn thing, the thing I really need most is to hear the voice of positivity. This is when you need to tell your inner critic to shove it, and let that angel voice sneak out.
Talk yourself up like you've never talked yourself up before. Flick that inner critic aside and tell yourself how motivated and driven you are in this moment.
If your pep game talk isn't strong enough yet, let someone else do the talking. There are thousands of motivational videos on YouTube that are just waiting to be discovered by you. Get to them! You've got to show that little critic who's boss. Newsflash - it's you!
The bigger picture.
I've talked about the bigger picture in previous posts, but it is a big deal! You need to be able to view the task at hand as part of your bigger picture journey. It may feel inconvenient in that moment, but if it's something that propels you towards your goals then it isn't inconvenient at all.
Look at these daunting tasks as stepping stones that need to be crossed in order for you to move towards your bigger goal. The sooner you cross them, the sooner they're over with and you can get moving towards the fun stuff.
Not every part of life is fun, but without the daunting tasks we wouldn't appreciate the ones that make us lose track of time because we're livin la vida loca over here!
Keep your eye on the prize and know that the crappy tasks bring the fun ones!
Quiet time is the best time.
When I'm losing motivation, one of the most powerful things I can do is walk into my little zen den (my bedroom) and be alone. In the quiet. Focusing on me.
When I am in my room, I turn the lights off and my crystal lamps on. I smudge the hell out of my sacred space. Sit my ass on my meditation pillow and just try my best to release the negative thoughts that are no longer serving me. If a thought is not making me feel powerful and productive, you better believe I'm going to round house kick it right out of my brain during this time.
When I'm alone in my zen den I don't let anything or anyone bother me. I'm grounding myself and the most at peace in these moments. I. Freaking. Love. It.
This is honestly one of my favorite things to do when there is too much chatter in my head that is trying to destroy my productivity!
Accept what is.
Sometimes lack of motivation is just the universe trying to tell us to slow down. You could be totally burnt out and this is your cue to take a break and stop pushing yourself.
You may just need to sit this one out and allow yourself to feel these emotions. Don't push through - just feel. Deeply!
Give yourself permission to just be in this moment. It will pass.
Life isn't always going to be one big motivational fun fest. It's going to have lots of ups and downs, but at the end of the day you have all of the tools that you need to push through. They're all inside of you just waiting to be pulled out and utilized. Your mindful toolbox of goodies is calling your name - we've got this! We've got this!
