An unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.
On a surface level, fear can be very frustrating and can cause a lot of negative backlash. We get frustrated at ourselves for being afraid of certain things. Fear is a completely natural feeling and should not cause negative dialogue within us.
There are quite a few things that I am afraid of that have caused some serious frustrations throughout the years.
A pretty common fear that a lot of people would have in common is a fear of heights. I can not stand being high in the air, especially when I am able to look down. I get the freakin worst feeling in my stomach and it makes me want to cry.
This may seem silly, but I've gotten very frustrated with myself when it comes to this fear. I've always had a desire to go zip-lining and parasailing. When how the hell am I gonna get my ass hundreds of feet in the air, hanging by nothing if I can't even look out of the window of a hotel that is too tall? Who do I think I am?
This fear literally pisses me off!
Another fear that I have that is a little more deep than the one I mentioned above, is the fear of being financially independent. Every career based dream I have ever had has been based around being an entrepreneur. I strive to be independent and my own boss. Well, I'm also terrified of not having structure and a "stable" paycheck.
While both of these fears are on complete opposite sides of the importance scale of my life, they have one very large deep cause in common. They both stem from me loving myself.
Fear, while normally viewed as a negative feeling, has a very strong positive feeling behind it. Your subconscious brain wants to protect you because you love yourself.
I don't want to be high in the air because I don't want to fall to my death! And I'm afraid of becoming financially independent, because I don't ever want to have to struggle or fail.
Fear is there to protect you and help you. It's like an over-protective mother that watches your every move to make sure you're not doing something dangerous or that could jeopardize your safety.
There is a difference between seeing the positive side of fear and letting it hold you back. Acknowledging that fear is love based is beautiful, but you can't let it stop you in every situation. Your life is meant to be lived fully and whole heartedly, as scary as that may seem! You can't let the fear that is within you hold you back from living to your fullest.
Take your fears with a grain of salt. You love yourself and want the best for yourself. That is awesome that your subconscious can sneakily let you know that!
This post may seem contradictory at some points, but I really want you to look at fear in a new light. Don't get frustrated with yourself when fear seems like it's holding you back. Just trust that that is your subconscious brain letting you know that you are loved.
Learning to trust your intuition is key in deciding what moves fear stops you from doing. I have a whole post based around intuition and trusting your gut. You can head to that post by clicking right here when you're done reading this one. It will give you a little more insight on what I mean when I talk about intuition. Which I tend to do a lot.
Moral of the story -
Fear is your reminder of love, protection and appreciation. Sometimes your subconscious needs a little kick in the rear to remind it that loving yourself also means going after what you really want and not letting anything or anyone hold you back.
You only get to live this life once. Chase after what you want and be wise in your decisions. Your intuition won't steer you in the wrong direction.
